Vincenzo Grifo discusses his potential career end at SC Freiburg. He sees himself as a viable candidate to retire at the club. Grifo, 33, stated in a Sport Bild interview that he feels great and wants to continue playing. He believes that a conversation about his retirement will happen eventually, but he hasn't thought about leaving the professional game yet. His contract with SC Freiburg runs until summer 2027. A career end at Freiburg is definitely a viable option for him. «I've been here with breaks for over twelve years. I love this club and the people», Grifo said. Despite offers from other clubs, he has always chosen to stay. «In football, you never say never, but I can definitely see myself retiring here.», Grifo joined SC Freiburg in 2015 after playing for Borussia Mönchengladbach and TSG Hoffenheim. Since returning in 2019, he has been a key player for the team and will continue to play alongside Maximilian Eggestein as the team's deputy duo behind captain Christian Günter. Grifo replaced Nils Petersen as the club's record goal-scorer last season. SC Freiburg finished the 2024-25 season in 7th place in the Bundesliga with 47 points from 34 games. In the current season, SC Freiburg has scored 51 goals and conceded 57 so far. The team is currently 42 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich. SC Freiburg will face FC Schalke 04 on February 20, 2027.
