SC Freiburg has started its training camp in Schruns without goalkeeper Noah Atubolu. The 24-year-old keeper remains in Freiburg to continue his personal training program and coordinate potential transfer talks. Instead, four U23 talents are attending, including the 16-year-old Jannik Veit.

Why is Atubolu missing?

Noah Atubolu, whose contract runs until 2027, is on the verge of a transfer. According to 'Bild,' the move could be completed as early as July. The goalkeeper is linked with Premier League clubs such as Aston Villa and AFC Bournemouth. Juventus Turin has also shown interest, but the trend is toward a move to the English league.

Which talents are included?

Alongside Veit, Mateo Zelic (19), Leon Catak (21), and Mladen Mijajlovic (18) are part of the training camp. Freiburg faces two friendly matches against Derby County and SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Coach Julian Schuster is focusing on integrating young players into the preseason preparations.

What does this mean for Freiburg?

Atubolu's departure would be a financial gain, as his market value stands at €25 million. At the same time, the camp gives the young talents a chance to prove themselves. The preseason is crucial for the upcoming Bundesliga campaign.
