SC Freiburg is in the Europa League final! The Breisgauer defeated Sporting Braga in the semi-final second leg with 3:1. Lukas Kübler scored twice for SC Freiburg, Johan Manzambi scored the second goal. SC Freiburg started very well, already from the sixth minute the Breisgauer played with a man advantage, because Mario Dorgeles was sent off with a red card for a foul on Niklas Beste. The SC made progress and took the lead: Lukas Kübler followed a cross from Vincenzo Grifo aggressively and scored with a strong effort in the bottom left corner of the Portuguese goal. Just before the break, the dominant home team scored again: Johan Manzambi was not attacked 21 meters in front of the goal and shot the ball with his right foot into the top right corner to make it 2:0. A little later, the SC had to take a short break: Víctor Gómez circumvented Noah Atubolu in the additional time of the first half and hit the right post with his shot. The crossbar was hit again by a Freiburger after the restart: Grifo curled the ball to the same post that had been hit by Gómez in the first half. Eleven minutes later, it became dangerous on the other side: Jean-Baptiste Gorby failed to score against the well-reacting Atubolu. Freiburg remained the dominant team, but missed a triple chance in the 70th minute to make it 3:0 – Igor Matanović headed the ball and Matthias Ginter failed to score on the rebound against goalkeeper Lukás Hornícek, Philipp Lienhart's attempt went wide. A corner kick brought the decision 120 seconds later: Kübler made himself the hero of the semi-final, as he headed a Grifo free kick into the goal to make it 3:0. Pau Víctor then made the Breisgauer stumble: the striker scored in the 79th minute to make it 1:3 – Braga was suddenly only one goal away from extra time. The SC got a little nervous, the Portuguese made pressure – and Gorby tested Atubolu with a long-range shot. Seconds before the end, the strong goalkeeper was on the spot again and parried Gabri Martinez' shot – and made the final in Istanbul against Aston Villa clear. SC Freiburg's coach Christian Streich was visibly relieved after the game. SC Freiburg will now face Aston Villa in the final. The final will take place on May 31 in Istanbul.
