Sport-Club Freiburg (SC Freiburg) thrashed Borussia Mönchengladbach 5-0 on Saturday to move top of the Bundesliga table. It was the club's third win in three league games this season.

Yannick Engelhardt opened the scoring in the 23rd minute after a pass from Derry Lionel Scherhant, then added a second in the 79th minute off an assist from Matthias Ginter. Igor Matanovic also scored twice, first in the 29th minute from Ginter's pass, then in the 77th minute after a ball from Jordy Makengo. Maximilian Eggestein rounded off the scoring in the 86th minute to make it 5-0.

The rout leaves Freiburg on nine points from three wins and no defeats after three matchdays, sitting first in the standings. The attack has scored ten goals this season while conceding just one, a goal difference of plus nine. Following the 1-0 win at SC Paderborn 07 through Eggestein's 26th-minute strike and the 5-0 demolition of Gladbach, Freiburg have now won five games in a row across all competitions.

The club still has to plan without Florent Muslija, who remains on the injuries list. The squad showed no weaknesses against Gladbach and gave away hardly any chances.

On September 19, SC Freiburg travel to Eintracht Frankfurt, currently eighth in the table. Fans can find the exact kickoff time and the rest of the schedule on the fixtures page, while the full squad list shows every player involved in this weekend's goals.
