In the first match of the Regionalliga season, SC Freiburg II secured a 1:1 draw against VfR Aalen from the Ostalb. The game took place in the Bediani-Arena of Aalen with an audience of around 2000 spectators. The hosts had a better start and took the lead in the 5th minute, when Aalen's attacker Dean Melo broke through on the right flank, leaving SC Freiburg II goalkeeper Jaaso Jantunen and defender Marius Klein unable to clear the ball.
The visitors held off until the 85th minute when Mateo Zelic from SC Freiburg II equalized for his team. The guests had to weather a tense late situation to secure their point, as VfR Aalen had several chances to break through and take the lead but were bravely defended by the Freiburg players.
