The disappointment and frustration after the bitter 2:3 defeat against the long-time struggling Bayern was palpable. After referee Daniel Siebert ended the turbulent and sometimes wild game, some Freiburg players vented their anger. After initially seeing the yellow card for the upset goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, Captain Christian Günter and Coach Julian Schuster also expressed their discontent with the referee. Günter received a yellow card for complaining. Freiburg Coach Schuster was less concerned about the missed personal win against the Munich team (as a player and coach, he had never won in 14 games against Bayern). He was more bothered by the late equalizer by Bayern's Lennart Karl in the 9th minute of extra time. Previously, only eight minutes of extra time had been displayed. "I was already wondering about the eight minutes", said Schuster. "I don't know how they came about. Normally, one would blow the whistle then." It seemed that his team was on the winning path until the final phase. Johan Manzambi (46th minute) with his fourth season goal and Lucas Höler (71st) had deservedly taken the lead for the brave and courageous hosts after the break with 2:0. However, the Bayern struck back with late goals from the young Tom Bischof (81st/90.+2) and Lennart Karl (90.+9) in an impressive comeback. "It's very disappointing", said Lucas Höler afterwards at the SWR microphone. The striker played his 300th game in the Freiburg jersey against Bayern. "I've been with the club for a long time, but I've never experienced a game where we played so well against Bayern." The striker also grappled with the chances he had left in the game. "I had two chances in front of my goal, and I have to make one. I'm mourning every chance I left behind", Höler regretted. His coach suffered after the final whistle together with the fans and above all with his team. "It feels definitely not good. The boys have invested a lot. We had a good game, but unfortunately, we couldn't finish it."
