SC Freiburg travel to face Eintracht Frankfurt carrying a new club record. Julian Schuster's team scored ten goals in the first three matchdays, a club-best start to a Bundesliga season.
"Those are exactly the emotions we need," said Schuster ahead of the match at Deutsche Bank Park. The coach emphasised the importance of challenging away games for team spirit. With 4,000 travelling fans behind them, they aim to confirm their strong form.
The team sits third in the table after four matchdays with ten points. Their record shows three wins and one draw. The last meeting with Frankfurt ended in a 2-2 draw on September 19. The goals for Freiburg that day were scored by Derry Scherhant and Yuito Suzuki. The Breisgau club's current form is excellent, with four wins and a draw in their last five competitive games.
Eintracht Frankfurt have already scored four goals following an opponent's turnover this season, more than any other team in the league. Coach Adi Hütter leads a dangerous side. The Freiburg squad will face familiar faces in the Frankfurt ranks: Ritsu Doan and goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, who joined on loan at the end of August. Speaking about Atubolu, Schuster said: "Atu is a Freiburg boy. His development has been really good. I'm looking forward to giving him a hug after the game." The goalkeeper recently saved his sixth consecutive Bundesliga penalty in Mainz and was called up to the Germany squad on Thursday.
Alongside Atubolu, Freiburg's Derry Scherhant, Yannik Engelhardt, Max Rosenfelder and Philipp Treu were also called up by Germany. Jordy Makengo received his first call-up to the DR Congo national team. After the game in Frankfurt, all players not away on international duty will have a three-week break from competitive action. This time is intended for recovery before the squad returns to work over the following two weeks.
SC Freiburg's next Bundesliga assignment is the home game against FC Schalke 04 on October 10. Florent Muslija is currently sidelined due to injury.
